Seventy One - 71

Another cigarette another prayer

to get me through another day

to help me find another way

I remember back in 71

the fog was over my life had begun

Hitchhiking in the California sun

with my guitar and friends who had come

Sitting at Laguna Beach my bodies warm

I had aching feet

So, I bought some pineapple to eat as

I stopped to talk to people standing in the streets

Said I had come a mighty along way

just to see the sun rise in California

They just smiled and looked away

I could see in their eyes they had something to say (and they said)

Boy your gonna find that life is just a journey through time

So don’t look at the sun too long or you’ll go blind and they said

Boy you’re bound to see that life is just a moment of eternity

So don’t lose sight or you may not see reality

So, I said is this really my style

to be away from home for some 2000 miles

Being here is really groovy today

but I’ve got to get home back on my way

Sitting at Laguna Beach finding my identity in the streets

Through the faces of the people,

I meet I see life’s true form some bitter some sweet

I’ve been searching following the sun

looking for adventure on the run

I remember what those people have said

I will carry it with me to my dying bed (and they said)

Boy your gonna find that life is just a journey through time

So don’t look at the sun too long or you’ll go blind ya they said

Boy you’re bound to see that life is just a moment of eternity

So don’t lose sight or you may not see reality Ya, Ya, Ya Ya

I’ve had some excitement and fun

I’ve found my purpose my place under the sun

And now that my journeys complete,

I’ll remember those people and what they said to me in (they said)

Boy your gonna find that life is just a journey through time

So don’t look at the sun too long or you’ll go blind they said

Boy you’re bound to see that life is just a moment in eternity

So don’t lose sight or you may not see reality oh they said

Boy your gonna find that life is just a journey through time

So don’t look at the sun too long or you’ll go blind blind

Another cigarette another prayer umm 1971
